Buddhism is the country’s national religion. On important religious days, a large part of the Buddhist population performs meritorious acts such as going to temples to give alms (tak baht) and religious cloth (tod pha-pa) to monks; walk around a temple with lighted candles in hand(wientien) or attend a sermon.
One particular sound that we usually hear during these events is the sound of prayer (suad mon).
This recording was done on February 11, l998 during a prayer gathering of 100,000 laity at the International Dhammakaya Assembly ( the world’s biggest man-made covered edifice with an area of 100 rai) of the Dhammakaya Temple in Pathum Thani province on Maka Bucha Day ( the occasion when the Lord Buddha’s disciples spontaneously gathered to listen to His sermon).
