Wat Khaek has been a place of worship for the Indian Hindus for over 140 years. It is situated on Silom Road, the business center of Bangkok. On the 8th lunar month Hindus all over the world pay homage to the Hindu goddess Jao Mae Sri Maha Uma Dhevi and other gods and goddesses. Parts of the Duxera or Navarati ceremony inside Wat Khaek have been recorded here. The parade on Silom Road was held on Vijayatasami Day. It consisted of a group of mediums of Jao Mae Sri Maha Umadhevi who had to carry 40-kilogram heavy brass pots over their heads, and another group of mediums of Uma’s son (Ganesh) who had to bear all throughout the event extremely hot pots with flames. All in all, it was a very exciting and colourful event in Thailand. (Note: Jao Mae Sri Maha Umadhevi was Shiva’s consort. She is also known as Uma Dhevi, Shakti, Bhavani, Durga, Kali and Parvati)
