The various sounds of bells, gong and drums have been recorded from the height of 3,051 feet above sea level at Wat Phra Boromathat on Doi Suthep, Chiengmai province. Not only does it take 10 kilometres to travel to get up the hill, but also another 300 steps up the stairs guarded by 2 mythical serpents (naga) on both sides, to reach this significant temple at the top. A traditional bathing rite for Phra Boromathat images is held here annually on Visakha Bucha Day, which is regarded as the day of birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Lord Buddha.
