This is a local celebration on the first day of the waning moon on the 11th lunar month in many southern provinces. It has been passed down from many generations. A revered Buddha image is enthroned (bussabok) in a beautifully decorated carriage shaped like a boat (rua Phra) which is dragged out of the temple and led on a route to the festivities while the sound of tapones and large gongs fill the air. The carriage is later on led back to the temple. “Chak Phra Thod Pha Pa†(chak is a southern word meaning drag or pull) has been an important event to the people of the south since the ancient days.
