Description:

The sound of â€œGlong Sabadchaiâ€ (drums) from the land of Lanna, a
name referring to the northern part of Thailand, used to serve many purposes in the past both in times of war and peace.
There are 3 kinds of Glong Sabadchai: The first is a double-headed drum with a diameter of 1 metre coupled with 2-3 smaller drums of 30-50 cm. in diameter called â€œlook toobâ€. This type is hung on a rack in the temple. It is called â€œglong poo jaâ€. Another kind is a smaller version of the glong poo ja and it is carried by the use of a litter. The third type is also a double-headed
drum ornamented with a mythical serpent (naga) carved in wood. It is also carried by the use of a litter. It has no â€œlook toobâ€.
This is a recording of the sound of the latter type. The drummer used sticks to beat the drum in coordination with rhythmic body movements and the sound of gong and cymbals. This is considered as an ancient traditional art by the people of Lanna.
